Inside Roulette Bets

In Roulette there are many, many ways to bet on the combinations of wins available from the reel. From the simplest black and red or odd and even bet to bets that cover different areas of the reel, roulette allows you to wager your stakes on almost any selection or spread over the black and red wheel. In this section we look at the types of bet you can make inside the numerical grid that sits in front of every roulette wheel. Please also see the section on outside bets, which explains the bets that can be made in the squares around this grid.

Straight up bet – This is where a player bets on a single number and this bet is made by placing your chips in the centre of the number’s square. You can make a straight up bet on zero.

BET PAYS 35-1

Split bet – This is where you bet on two numbers that are placed next to one another on the betting grid. In order to make this bet you must place your chips on the line between the two numbers.

BET PAYS 17-1

Street bet – The player can bet on any three numbers on a horizontal line going across the board by placing their chips on the side of the grid.

BET PAYS 11 – 1

Corner bet – You can bet on four numbers in a square on the grid by placing your chips on the intersection between the vertical and horizontal lines that are used to mark out the betting area.

BET PAYS 8 - 1

Six line bet – This is like a composite bet of two Street bets allowing you to play six numbers on the horizontal at any time. Place your chips on the edge of the grid on the horizontal line between all six numbers.

BET PAYS 5 - 1

There are also specially termed bets that involve the zero square. Some are for the European tables with one zero, others for the American tables with the zero and double zero.

Trio bet – This bet is similar to a street bet but is made by placing your chips on the intersecting line between the zero and two other numbers (European Roulette)

BET PAYS 11 – 1

Basket bet – This is the same as the trio bet, but is made on the American Roulette table giving you more ways to select your three numbers

BET PAYS 11 - 1

Top line bet – This bet is made by placing your chips on the intersecting line on an American Roulette table between all the zero markers and the first line.

BET PAYS 6-1

Outside Roulette Bets

Outside Roulette Bets are low odds bets that have a higher probability of coming in when compare to the inside bets. These are made outside the numerical grid that holds all the numbers on the Roulette table, hence the name of ‘outside’ bets. Many Roulette systems use these bets exclusively as players feel that they can tailor the odds with this kind of bet.

1 – 18 bet – This bet is made by placing your chips in the appropriate box marked in the top left corner of the outside grid. Sometimes called a low numbers bet.

BET PAYS 1-1

19 – 36 bet – This bet is made by placing your chips in the small 19 – 36 betting box that’s found in the bottom right corner of the outside grid. Also called a high numbers bet.

BET PAYS 1-1

Even bet – Another bet that’s fairly easy to make as you simply place your chips on the area clearly marked ‘EVEN’ on the outside grid, which is located next to the 1-18 bet area.

BET PAYS 1-1

Odd bet – The opposite bet to the even bet, place your chips in the area marked ‘ODD: next to the 19 – 36 betting area to ensure you win should that little white ball drop into any odd number.

BET PAYS 1-1

Black bet – The classic roulette strategies usually go for red or black bets. Make this classic bet by placing your chips in the central area indicated by a black diamond.

BET PAYS 1-1

Red bet – The mirror bet the black bet is made quite simply by placing your chips on the red diamond as opposed to the back.

BET PAYS 1-1

Dozen bet – These betting areas can be found between the 1-1 betting areas and the grid and allow you to bet on the first (1-12), second (13-24) or third (25-36) dozens of Roulette wheel numbers.

BET PAYS 2-1

TIER BET

This specialist bet is placed on the 12 numbers that sit opposite the zero on the roulette wheel.  This is the range of numbers from 27 to 33 on a single zero wheel. These numbers are then paired up on the inside grid and a single chip is placed on each pair, making this a six chip bet. Apparently this type of bet is extremely popular in UK casinos.

ORPHAN BET

The Orphans are any numbers on the roulette wheel that are neither part of the Voisins Du Zero (see part 1) nor the Tier. These 8 numbers are again bet on in pairs although the 17 appears in two pairings (17 and 20, 14 and 17) and the 1 has a single chip bet upon it. This makes this bet a five chip bet.

FINAL BET

This is a very simplistic bet where the player simply bets on all numbers ending in a selected number. So for instance, a player calling ‘Final 1’ would place 4 bets on the numbers 4, 14, 24 and 34.

XX AND THE NEIGHBOURS

Again, a much more simplistic bet than many others that can be called on the table; this bet consists of any number and the two numbers on either side.  So for instance, if someone was to call 18 and the neighbours then this would mean the player is betting an equal amount of chips on the 5 numbers around 18.

MAXIMUM BET

This is the biggest bet you can place as a specialist bet, as the name suggests. You make this bet by choosing a number and this gives you an escalating bet structure around that number as the odds go down. This means that the long chance bets only have a small wager on them, but they could pay big, whilst the short chance bets, which are more likely to come in have a larger numbers of chips on them but

In summation although these bets in name are restricted to the French Roulette table, they are very good bets and cover a lot of the reel. Of course, you’ll have to do a little research into these bets to discover the exact ratios of chips that are placed with some of the bets (such as the Voisins Du Zero) but most of these are simple split bets that allow you to cover a large percentage of the wheel with economical bets.
